Who is Christ?-the anointed one

I wanted to start this with a discussion about who Christ is.  I went to the lds bible dictionary, and thought it would be a good idea to look at the ideas there and find supporting scripture.

"The anointed (Gk.) or Messiah (Heb.). Jesus, who is called Christ, is the firstborn of the Father in the spirit and the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh"-lds bible dictionary

I have grown up with this idea all my life, but have never thought about where we are taught this and why, or even what significance it may have.

Both Christ and Messiah means the anointed one.  Here's a video that talks about that idea.

When I looked anointed in the dictionary it says this:
         1. To apply oil, ointment, or a similar substance to.

2. To put oil on during a religious ceremony as a sign of sanctification or consecration.
3. To choose by or as if by divine intervention.

So someone who is anointed is chosen or consecrated.  And consecrate means to set apart as holy.

In Acts 10:38, we learn that God anointed Christ.

38 How God aanointed Jesus of Nazareth with the bHoly Ghostand with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were coppressed of the devil; for dGod was with him."

I like what it says he anointed him with also: the Holy Ghost and with power.

From this we learn that Christ was chosen and set apart for the work we did.  Because of this, we can know that the work he did was of God and good.  My question for those reading is, how does knowing that Christ is the Anointed one and has been set apart strengthen your testimony of his work?
